Vietnam: Thanh Son Elementary School & Kindergarten

Years: 2014 and 2015

In March 2015 built a 15m2 kitchen room for the school that will facilitate the cooking of meals and also provide a space to serve lunch for the pupils.  See the results >>

In August 2015 the World Expeditions Foundation funded the materials and wages for local workers to construct a concrete staircase leading to the school, 100 m long x 1.5m wide. See the results >>

Kitchen: the new kitchen facility means that full lunches can be prepared in a hygienic environment at school. This directly improves student attendance because the students no longer need to walk home for lunch. They eat lunch at school and continue with the afternoon’s education.

Stairway: the wet season in the Mai Chau region of Northern Vietnam can typically bring up to 296 mm (11.7 inches) in a month. During the wet season the steep pathway leading from the road down to Thanh Son School literally turns into a mud slide. The new pathways ensures the students safe passage to and from school.

Comments from the community: The new pathway from main road to Thanh Son Elementary School and Kindergarten is productive for the daily life of its teachers and children. The weather of Mai Chau is cloudy and wet almost whole year, so the old muddy dirt road is very difficult and dangerous to move, especially rainy days. Building new pathway helps the local people, mainly small children to go to school easier and safer than before.
